the greener the grass

As has been made completely clear from the last several post graduation for an institute of higher learning has now come and gone. There are those who among us (beth being one) who are completely overjoyed at this transition. I am not one of them. I liked being a student. I didn’t always enjoy being in class, but I liked being a student. I liked the life I was living. I am still close to home. I had a good place to live. I have a great church. I have even greater friends.

For many of the people that I know, they can completely enjoy the end of school because it signifies only the end of classes, homework, and exams. Except for the obvious change in their main activity everyday, their life remains largely the same: the same spouses, many of the same friends, the same churches, the same cities and states.

For some of us, graduate brings with it not only a piece of paper and a change of vocation, but a point where once again we must uproot and start our lives over again. Sure this could be good; it could be exciting, but it is definitly scary. The saying goes “The grass is always greener on the other side,” but what if I think the grass is pretty darn green on the side I am on now?

This is why I had a hard time deciding what to do post-graduation. I knew I needed to leave, but I also knew I didn’t want to…

  1. I am sad it’s all over, trust me. But you’re right, I get to stay here with people I’ve always known. I am going to miss you though, even though we’ll talk online a lot. It just won’t be the same (tear).

  2. Hope comes from the finding of friends in the future. Hope does not dwell on the friends of the past, but it also does not cause them to be forgotten. Faith will be where you’ll find strength. 2 Cor 12:10. We will never forget you Jojo, even if we never see you again. I could not and would not be selfish enough to ask you to stay, because I know that there are others out there that need to be impacted by your values and charisma the way that I have. As for the green grass, remember that it grows everywhere that God wants it to.
