Magazine Reading: A process

  1. Find a magazine that is work reading.
  2. Order subscription to said magazine.
  3. Wait for your mall box to be filled with magazine goodness.
  4. Remove any plastic wrap and discard any included add-on advertising periodical.
  5. Remove anything from the magazine that is not either the cover or the normal paper thickness. This can, and will, include subscription postcards, advertising inserts and special “thick” ads, thereby allowing you to flip through the pages without your periodical forcing you to look at particular pages.
  6. Discard small forest of failed advertising that you just removed.
  7. Flip through entire magazine from front to back, getting the general feel for the magazine without actually reading anything that takes more than 30 seconds.
  8. Leave magazine in a conspicuous place.
  9. Over the next two weeks or so randomly pick an article or page to read, preferably in a roughly back to front order.
  10. Deciding that you have read most of the articles, flip though from front to back once again reading anything that might have been missed.
  11. Blog about your process.
  12. Await next month’s issue.
